 | Bio: Life-long F.E.D. guy thanks to Dad. We ran two front engine dragsters (Quarter Pounder I & II) from the mid 70's through the early 80's at Maple Grove in Reading, PA. This left an indelible impression on me as it would most anyone. Unfortunately the family digger met it's demise - an oil bath, the old single guardrail and that was that. Dad was fine, but we were done racing.
Fast forward 20 years later. Finally back to the habit in 2004, but this time with a door slammer to start. Large Orange. Very sooon thereafter I found my dream on eBay. A vintage front engine dragster. Dad and I picked it up on New Years Day 2005. It needed a minor upgrade of the chassis (helmet bars, welds checked - thanks ed Quay!) and we upgraded various parts including the ignition, wheels and tires and added a Moon tank. The Quarter Pounder 3 (at the time equipped with a 440 Chrysler known as "the Dodge'n Bullet") was out for the first time in July 2005, but we had a problem with the Ron's injection so we switched to a 850 Demon carb for my licensing runs. After discovering problems with the 440 we stuffed in a Big Block Chevy. The first event was the Super Chevy Show in July of 2006 with times ranging from 9.30's down to 9.15 @ 140+ mph. | |
